Rooted in Resilience: A Lesson from Hiroshima

Rooted in Resilience: A Lesson from Hiroshima

Today, I stood in the presence of quiet strength.
While visiting Hiroshima, I found myself drawn to a tree that had survived the atomic bombing—scarred, yet thriving. Its bark bore witness to devastation, but its branches reached gently toward the sky, alive and full of grace.
I came to Hiroshima expecting to feel sorrow—and I did. But what surprised me most was the deep sense of peace that blanketed the gardens and castle grounds. The tree, still standing decades later, felt like a sacred teacher. A reminder that even when everything is shattered, life—miraculously—finds a way to go on.
In that moment, I wasn’t just a traveler in Japan. I was a woman reflecting on my own story. The storms I’ve weathered. The pain I’ve transcended. The strength I’ve found in places I never expected.
That tree didn’t survive because it resisted the blast. It survived because of its roots.
And just like that tree, we too have roots. Deep, spiritual roots—anchored in truth, healing, purpose, and love. Life will shake us. Loss will change us. But we are not broken. We are being reshaped.
Let this serve as your reminder:
You are not what happened to you. You are what you choose to become after.

If this message touched your heart, I invite you to share it with someone who might need a little reminder of their own strength. And in the comments, tell me—what has helped you stay rooted through life’s storms?
With love and light,
Mary
